Junior welterweight contender Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has had some of the weirdest things happen to and around him since the promotion for his fight with Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) kicked off a little over a week ago. He would squash things with Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya in NYC, admit to smoking weed and drinking alcohol in L.A., and release a music video to a song on Instagram last night, and that is just scraping the surface. Earlier today, Garcia released a video addressing some of his recent posts on social media.
“Hey guys, it’s me, Ryan (Garcia). I’m coming on here to explain what’s going on. I’m not in possession of my phone. I can’t get access to my Instagram, and my cards are blocked. I’m just being taking advantage. I personally just wanted to send a video out to the people that love me, my fans, and my family that is concerned. I’m okay. I’m not dead. I believe in Jesus. All of those other things are lies. They tried to put me in jail. They are blocking my cards, and I can’t access my money. No one is hitting me back. I don’t know what’s going on. Just know that I am okay.”

This is where things get tricky as some fans believe what Garcia has to say while others think he is trolling and wants Haney to believe he is taking the fight lightly when he really isn’t. It’s hard to tell what is real and what isn’t, almost like a well-written WWE storyline. Today’s video was the latest of incidences that have occurred to the 25-year-old from Victorville, CA, and many believe this won’t be the last. As we get closer to the fight on April 20, we will likely see more things pop up. If all of this is real, then Golden Boy does have a backup plan on the card named Arnold Barboza Jr. The junior welterweight contender prepares for his fight or an opportunity to step in for Haney or Garcia.
FightsATW will continue to monitor this story surrounding Garcia as it develops.
