Ryan Garcia vs Devin Haney Might Soon Become a Reality

The junior welterweight division might soon bear witness to one of its biggest showdowns yet. A recent tweet by Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) has further hyped fans up in anticipation of a potential showdown with the division’s reigning superstar, Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs).

Garcia has been vocal about his desire to fight Haney, who is currently fresh off a victory against Oscar Duarte (26-2-1, 21 KOs) in early December. In a tweet, he mentioned that he had advised him to contact Haney’s team and to work towards making the fight happen.

On the other hand, Haney further cemented this by nodding in agreement about the potential talks. ‘The Dream’ recently secured the WBC super lightweight title after an impressive victory against Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) at the Chase Centre in San Francisco.

Devin Haney opens up about the talks with Ryan Garcia

It sure looks like Haney is also interested in having Garcia as his next opponent.

‘The Dream’ was a guest at the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. In conversation, Helwani asked him about the probability of him fighting Garcia. “That’s something that we’re talking about,” he said. “We’re in negotiations with Oscar and Ryan, Ryan’s lawyer, Ryan’s team. It could very much be what’s next.”

However, he added that the negotiations are only in the beginning stages. Haney also mentioned that he has already accomplished everything in the lightweight division. And he now wishes to make the biggest fights happen.

Meanwhile, Haney stated that a fight with Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is a fight he is looking forward to but has yet to hear from Tank Davis’s team. “They said that they need to send us an offer, and they’ll be the ones reaching out and doing that, but nobody’s reached out, so right now, we’re on to Ryan Garcia,” he said. “I’ve been calling for these guys for a long time. It’s only a matter of time until I share the ring with all of them.”

While the talks are still in the beginning stages, there is no denying that Garcia vs Haney will set the division on fire.
