Shawn Porter Bears ‘Bad News’ About Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

Jake Paul’s (10-1, 7 KOs) long-awaited showdown against ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs) is on the books once again. While there is a new revised date of November 15 for the fight, many critics expressed disinterest in seeing the matchup. When the new date was announced, former boxer turned sports commentator Shawn Porter came in bearing the “bad news” about the reality of the fight.

Talking at his PorterWay Podcast, Porter stated that he is confident that the fight will not reach fruition. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news. We’re not gonna ever see Mike Tyson get in the ring with Jake Paul,” he said. He mentioned that while he does not call the shots, he does not think Tyson will enter the ring. Moreover, Porter expressed concerns about the matchup not making any sense, even from a business perspective. “I feel like Mike and Jake, even to the lowest common denominator, it didn’t make sense,” he said. Paul vs. Tyson was initially scheduled for July 20 but was postponed due to ‘Iron’ Mike suffering an ulcer flare-up aboard a plane.

While Porter might not believe in the matchup, Tyson is adamant about making the fight a reality. “It’s happening, we’re all here. I’m very prepared to knock out Jake Paul, I’m very prepared,” Tyson said at a recent press conference. “I had a small adversity. I got sick, but I feel good. I’m just ready. I’m just ready.”

“A Different Kind of Human Being”

Joe Rogan is unsurprisingly not one among the critics. Talking to actor Russell Crowe in the latest experience of his Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the UFC color commentator defended the matchup while also expressing confidence in Tyson’s skillset.

“58 is 58. No matter what you’re taking and what they’re doing for you, you’re still 58. But 58-year-old Mike Tyson is not 50-year-old Mike Jones, that lives down the street. It’s a different kind of human being; he can still knock your head into another dimension if he can catch you,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rogan also did not shy away from giving Paul due credit. “He’s beating former UFC world champions like Tyron Woodley. Jake had that very good fight with Tommy Fury, who is a legitimate boxer. That was a very good fight. And he just beat up Mike Perry, who was a bare-knuckle champion,” he said. “He’s a real fighter, he can fight. And if Mike Tyson and him are fighting, and Mike can’t catch him, then it’s hard to tell.”
