Add FightsATW on GoogleWe are just under two weeks away from the WBA welterweight title fight between champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and his opponent Teofimo Lopez on August 22, which will stream live on DAZN PPV from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Tuesday, Lopez held a media workout in Los Angeles, California, where he discussed his upcoming title fight.
Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) is seven months removed from suffering his second career loss, which came against Shakur Stevenson at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Now he faces Romero (17-2, 13 KOs), with whom he’s had an on-again, off-again relationship over the years. Instead of declaring they won’t fight because of their relationship outside the ring, they have decided to put it all on the line when they meet in the ring on August 22.

Here is what Lopez had to say about his upcoming fight against Romero and his welterweight debut.
“I’m fighting a big puncher at 147 and going up to that weight for the first time. We’re taking a risk, because it’s no risk, no reward. I’m just focusing on my objectives so I can come out victorious.
“Every fight at 147 will be my biggest fight. I won’t say they’ll all be the most challenging. The best man will end up on top. Right now I’m only focused on Rolly Romero.
“I think Rolly’s skills are underappreciated. He controls the pace and makes it his fight, everyone overlooks that. But he’s not underrated on the stature side. He’s a world champion for a reason.”

Although Lopez has two losses at the world-class level, that hasn’t stopped him from staying marketable and signing a new deal directly with DAZN. This new deal gives him a level of flexibility he hasn’t had while also serving as a partner for his Takeover Promotions LLC.
“I’m trying to make the best fights we can make, said Lopez. “Signing with DAZN was a no-brainer. They started with ‘The Takeover’.

“I’m just going to keep going forward in my career. I’m so locked in on continuing to achieve bigger and better things one fight at a time. The fans can decide my legacy when it’s all over.”
