Valdez vs Wilson Results: Oscar Valdez Scores Huge 7th Rd TKO

Oscar Valdez (32-2, 24 KOs) put on a vintage performance on ESPN+ as he stopped Liam Wilson (13-3, 7 KOs) in the seventh round of their fight, earning himself the interim WBO super featherweight title.

Wilson got to a quick start, and one of the left hooks he landed almost instantaneously bruised Valdez’s right cheek. Valdez would return with hard left hooks to the body. Valdez was able to jab his way in and land a left hook, which busted Wilson’s nose in the second round. Wilson would then keep the fight just outside mid-range, which wouldn’t allow Valdez to land anything significant throughout the round.

Wilson landed some hard right uppercuts in the third round but Valdez’s left hook to the body and head were more of the eye-catching punches. Valdez had a huge fourth round as he landed, crushing left hooks to Wilson’s chest and rib area. Valdez was pushing the action but towards the end of the fourth round, Wilson started to land the hard left hooks to the body.

Valdez used his legs in the fifth round as Wilson was chasing him. Wilson was landing the right uppercut on Valdez while Valdez was stopping Wilson in his tracks with his straight right hand. In the sixth round, Valdez started to unload huge left hooks to the body and head while following it up with a straight right hand. Wilson decided to fight the sixth round in close, allowing Valdez to land punches at will.

The seventh round was all Valdez as he landed one of his vintage left hooks to Wilson’s head, which hurt him badly. Once Valdez saw Wilson was hurt, he landed about 15 consecutive punches before the referee stopped the fight, as Wilson did not throw any punches back. Valdez’s victory earned him the interim WBO title and some big-money fights in the future.
