As ‘The Day of Reckoning’ dawns on the dunes of Riyadh, heavyweight champs Anthony Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs) and Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) are gearing up for their respective showdowns. However, a Wilder vs Joshua fight has been on the cards for a very long time, with talks never reaching fruition. Meanwhile, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently weighed in on the highly anticipated matchup.
Hearn was in an interview with FightHype. In conversation, he was asked about the prospect of the potential showdown. Moreover, the interviewer highlighted Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott’s claims of Hearn being against the matchup. The Matchroom boss refuted Scott’s accusations and asked Wilder’s team to educate themselves about the issue before making accusations.
“Apparently, I’m just all about the money, right? ‘I just want to make money off Joshua,’ whatever,” he said. “But also, I can’t make money out of Joshua in small fights.”
Hearn mentioned that he did not make a lot of money when Joshua fought Jermaine Franklin (22-2, 14 KOs) and Robert Helenius (32-5, 21 KOs). He also stated that he is not interested in Joshua fighting for small purses and would rather have him make a $50 million fight.
“I want him to fight Deontay Wilder because I believe he beats him. And I believe that’s financially the right fight for AJ, financially the right fight for me. So these guys really don’t know what they’re talking about,” Hearn said.
He further asked Wilder to ensure that he wins his upcoming fight. “Make sure you win; we’ll win. You’ll get your wish, and you’ll get beat,” Hearn said.
Anthony Joshua reveals his ultimate goal

While a fight with Wilder will undoubtedly be a feather on his crown, Joshua has set his sights on the bigger picture. “It is to become a three-time heavyweight champion. But it’s also to become a dominant fighter, a better fighter,” Joshua said in an interview with Sky Sports. “What that means is the championship will follow that.”
He mentioned that to realize his dream, he must be willing to change himself in the process. Joshua added that he is looking forward to his upcoming fight and believes that the fight “presented itself at a perfect time while I was developing in the UK.”
