TEMECULA, Calif– Although Amanda Serrano did not become the sole knockout queen, she did retain her WBO & WBA featherweight titles and earned her 50th win via a majority decision over Lucrecia Anabella Manzur (14-5, 7 KOs).

The judges saw this one 114-114, 116-112 x 2 for Serrano (50-4-1, 32 KOs), who admitted after the fight that she hurt her hand and that she has one more fight left to achieve the knockout record.

In the opening round, Manzur was on the front foot, applying pressure with her left jab. Serrano was patient, using her right jab to gauge distance. Serrano slipped in the left uppercut, as there were already openings for that punch throughout the round.

In the second round, Manzur was outworking Serrano, landing three- to four-punch combinations that forced Serrano to reset multiple times. Manzur appeared warmed up, while Serrano was still trying to figure things out.

Manzur had another solid round in the third as Serrano could not get going. Manzur’s pressure was too much for Serrano, who was on the back foot versus the front, where she is most effective.

In the fourth round, Manzur’s pressure was getting to Serrano, who could not defend against the combinations coming at her. Toward the end of the round, Manzur landed four huge punches that left Serrano temporarily hurt. The fifth round was another big round for Manzur as her pressure continued to bother Serrano. Serrano made no adjustments and could not find her rhythm.

Manzur controlled the fight through the sixth, but in the seventh, Serrano found her rhythm behind her right jab. Manzur lunged in frequently, followed by an overhand right, but it lacked real force. It appeared Manzur was beginning to tire at this point in the fight.

In the eighth round, Manzur showed more fatigue as Serrano began to work her combinations behind the right jab, with Manzur throwing few punches back at Serrano. Serrano appeared to be getting her second wind while Manzur began to fade.

Rounds 9 through 12 were all Serrano, who took advantage of the faded Manzur. Serrano had to make up for the inactivity in the early rounds. In the end, Serrano escaped with the victory, as she is now closer to retirement than ever.
