Filip Hrgovic lived up to his moniker “El Animal” as he destroyed Dave Allen in the third round of their main event in Doncaster, England, live on DAZN.
Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KOs) wanted to thrust his way back into the heavyweight scene, and he did just that with his TKO win over Allen (25-9-2, 20 KOs). Queensberry’s CEO was interviewed after the fight and said Moses Itauma is booked for an August return, which could be against Hrgovic or could be made after. Either way, when Hrgovic resigned with Queensberry, the Itauma fight was one of the ones he identified as having to be made, according to the Queensberry CEO, so it looks like we’ll get Hrgovic vs. Itauma in the near future.
In the opening round, the fight got off to a quick start. Allen continually threw the overhand right, but Hrgovic’s 1-2 combination down the middle was the most effective punch of the round. Hrgovic continued to dictate the pace throughout the second round, as his lead left jab kept Allen at distance and the right hand that followed kept landing flush on Allen’s head. In the third round, Hrgovic was putting a beating on Allen, with one right hand after another. Allen was not firing back, and the referee was watching closely, looking to Allen’s corner to see if they were going to step in. Finally, Allen’s trainer got up to the ringpost with the towel in hand, signaling the end of the fight.
Although Allen was brave, Hrgovic was just too relentless with his offense, and in the end, it resulted in the TKO victory.
