The crown prince of boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs), has undoubtedly made a name and fortune for himself both inside and outside the ring. This, however, has paved the way for many to mistake his eccentricity for arrogance. In fact, Devin Haney’s (31-1, 15 KOs) father, Bill Haney, has been on a persistent tirade of calling him a hater. On the other hand, Mayweather opened up about why he has absolutely no reason to hate anyone.
Mayweather was recently a guest on the It Is What It Is podcast hosted by Ma$e, Cam’ron, and Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson. In conversation, he was asked about his thoughts on being perceived as a hater.
“Everybody said, Floyd hating, Floyd hating, Floyd hating. The last time I checked, hating on what? On what? I’m being for real, hating on what? Ok, the last time I checked, I still got all my buildings in New York City. I got 100 cars, paid for. I got 30 houses, paid for. I own strip clubs and hookah lounges. I got champagne, I got vape pens. I got betting sites,” he said.
Mayweather even mentioned that he makes 24 million out of one dispensary alone without factoring in what he makes from his other investments. “If you guys have seen me. I always go to the gym and work with these young fighters, and I don’t even ask for a dime. I do this out of my love,” he said. “People gonna continue to say, blame Floyd for everything.”
“Continue To Steal Money”
While Mayweather was adamant that he was not a hater, he was seen strongly voicing his disappointment in the ‘Problem Child’ Jake Paul’s (9-1, 6 KOs) decision to fight boxing legend Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs).
In the same podcast episode, Mayweather was asked about a potential rematch against Logan Paul. That was when he shifted his focus to the younger Paul. “I mean, what he’s doing is kind of cool if he can continue to steal money, and they match him the way they match him. I can’t knock his hustle, so if they can match him the way they how they’ve been matching him, more power to him,” he said.
Is Mayweather a hater, or are people just jealous of his success? Hater or not, there is no denying that he remains one of the most iconic names in boxing.
