Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez was in a tough spot early on, but it still resulted in a sensational one-punch knockout over Antonio Vargas in the sixth round of their main event live on DAZN.

Rodriguez (24-0, 17 KOs) took more clean shots than you would normally see from his opponents against Vargas (19-2-1, 11 KOs), but he remained disciplined to his game plan and delivered the finish that everyone was looking for at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, AZ. After the fight, Rodriguez was asked about his next opponent and whether it would be Naoya Inoue. He said he fights whoever they put in front of him.

In the opening round, Rodriguez wasted no time getting on the front foot and leading with his right jab. Rodriguez‘s constant shifting gave Vargas some problems early on. When he settled in, Vargas landed clean straight right hands that forced Rodriguez to move back and reset.

Rodriguez controlled the action in the second round with his right jab and left hook to the body. After Rodriguez landed a series of combinations, Vargas landed a 6-punch combination with only seconds remaining in the round.

Vargas came charging back in the third round, giving as much as he was taking. When Rodriguez finished his combinations, Vargas would then unload his offense. Although Rodriguez had a high guard, many of Vargas’ punches made it through.

In the fourth round, Vargas continued to back Rodriguez up with his offense. There were moments when Rodriguez would land a straight left to Vargas’ chin, forcing him to buckle a bit. Vargas would recover quickly and finish the round strongly.

To begin the fifth round, Rodriguez landed a straight left that sent Vargas to the canvas for a knockdown. Vargas finished the round strong and avoided being stopped for the remainder of the round. In the sixth round, Rodriguez landed a straight left that sent Vargas to one knee and then flat on his back. Vargas could not beat the ten-count, forcing the referee to waive the fight off.
