John Fury Believes That Tyson Fury Turned Deontay Wilder & Otto Wallin into ‘Two Different People’

The Day of Reckoning’ showdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, saw heavyweight stars Deontay Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs) and Otto Wallin (26-2-1, 14 KOs) suffer devastating losses against Joseph Parker (34-3, 23 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs), respectively. Meanwhile, John Fury, the father of Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs), who has previously fought both Wallin and Wilder, believes that his son might have had something to do with their losses.

The older Fury was in an interview with SecondsOut. In conversation, he mentioned that Wallin and Wilder’s performance had changed considerably from when they fought his son.

“Otto Wallin never turned up, just like Deontay Wilder never. I’ve never seen anything as bad as Deontay Wilder in my life, to be honest with you,” Fury said. “I was looking at two different people in Wallin and Wilder – those were not the people who fought Tyson.”

He added that he believed the ‘Gypsy King’ took “everything out of them.” Fury fought Wilder three times between 2018 and 2021. While the first find ended in a draw, Fury emerged victorious in the other fights. Moreover, these fights also earned him the WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles.

Meanwhile, Fury vs Wallin took place in 2019, where Fury was declared the winner by decision.

‘They need brown trousers’

Joshua dominated Wallin for the majority of the five rounds that they fought. The fight was stopped after Wallin suffered significant damage from a right cross-left hook combination in the fifth round.

Fury praised AJ’s performance and said he looked the part and fought skillfully.

“I don’t know what it is when [fighters] see these big muscular men, they need brown trousers. When they see Tyson, a bit fat, doesn’t look much, they seem to bring their A-game and fight out of their skin,” he said. “But when they see AJ, 6-foot 6-ins, 18 stone, solid, looks the part, the plug goes out of them.

Fury added that with his impressive performance, Joshua has his foot in the right direction for a mega fight against his son.
