Ricky Hatton has a piece of advice for Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
‘The Gypsy King’ is gearing up to meet former undisputed world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in a potentially sensational rematch at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December. With the fight date quickly inching closer, there has been no dearth of advice (and opinions) on how Fury could perform better in the rematch. On the other hand, Hatton pointed out a few of Fury’s strengths that he did not use to his advantage during the last fight.
Hatton was recently in conversation with Pro Boxing Fans. In conversation, he broke down the last Fury vs Usyk fight.
“I think Fury can make changes if he uses his height, which he didn’t use last time, and if he uses his weight, which he didn’t use last time. If he uses his reach, which he didn’t use last time. I think he shouldn’t have someone as small as Oleksandr Usyk pushing him around the ring,” he said. Hatton also pointed out that Fury had too many voices coming from his corner. He mentioned that only one voice should come from the corner to allow the boxer time to better process the information relayed to him.
“He’s Not Bothered By The Mind Games”
Meanwhile, Hatton has been all praise for Usyk’s skillset. One of the tactics that Fury has often relied on has been using psychological tricks on his opponents. However, Hatton believes it will not affect Usyk in any way. “He’s not bothered by the mind games one bit, is he Usyk? It just goes in one ear and out the other, doesn’t it?” he said while talking to DailyMail.
“Fighters like Usyk only come along once in a while, don’t they? I mean, Olympic gold medalist, undisputed cruiserweight champion, and now undisputed heavyweight champion. He’s an unbelievable talent that can’t be taken for granted. It just seems to me that whatever Tyson does isn’t going to affect him. It’s not going to get through to him.” It sure looks like Hatton’s words have further hyped up the highly anticipated rematch.
