Tim Tszyu on Potentially Facing Terence Crawford Next: ‘Beautiful’

No Limit Boxing hosted a media Zoom earlier this evening with WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu(24-0, 17 KOs) as he gave his reaction to the news of Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) pulling out of the fight due to an injury and Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) replacing him as his opponent.

Tszyu was still visibly irritated about the situation but had moved on and zoned in on his new opponent, Fundora. Tszyu is excited about the fact that the fight is now a unification bout, as the WBC & WBO both have approved the fight. Tszyu received the news last night, and once he did, his team got the phone and flew in two tall sparring partners who arrived this morning at his training camp. Tszyu understands the situation but says, “This is what it takes to be great.”

Tszyu will have his hands full on March 30 as he faces Fundora, but the motivation to win is the opponent that awaits him: Terence Crawford. News broke today that Crawford used his super champion status to request a shot at the WBO junior middleweight title. The WBO has come out and said that the winner between Tszyu and Fundora will have to start negotiations five days after the fight and they will have 180 days for it to take place.

When FightsATW asked Tszyu about the Crawford news, he didn’t hesitate to answer and said, “Beautiful. That’s every fighter’s dream, I guess, to fight on the biggest stage of them all. Now, the dream is to unify. I am happy that the fight is for the WBC & WBO belt.”
