‘I Don’t Give A F%ck About Him,’ Tyson Fury About Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury (35-2-1, 24 KOs) will soon face Polish boxer Mariusz Wach (39–13, 20 KOs) at the  Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya. As he plans to fight on Friday against what could only be called an underpowered opponent, the question arises: has he lost interest in fighting Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs)?

When asked by Dev Sahni of Sky News if he still has eyes on a Joshua showdown, Fury went on a completely unhinged rant, which, while out of the blue, was not at all surprising for the Gypsy King.

“Let’s not make this about silly Mr Bodybuilder. I’m not interested in him or his mates or anybody else. I don’t give a f**k about him. I don’t care if I ever see him again in my life. If I do, I do. If I don’t, I don’t. I’m not interested in him; anybody should do for him – his manager, his wife, his sister, his cousin. No interest,” he said. “We have got five months left of the year, so I want to get this fella [Wach] boxed, do well, and do what I can.”

Fury‘s reluctance to face Joshua appears to stem from a mix of competitive reasons (among others) rather than a single issue. He has often argued that his legacy is already secure. From his perspective, Joshua is no longer the defining opponent he once was.

Additionally, negotiations between the two camps have been notoriously difficult. A fight was agreed to in principle in 2021, but a legal ruling forced Fury into a third fight with Wilder. Since then, both sides have publicly accused the other of delaying or imposing unreasonable contract terms. That history appears to have bred frustration and mistrust.

Meanwhile, he is confident about how he’d fare against his upcoming opponent.

“I know I can beat this fella. I beat this fella with one hand, and that’s not to say anything bad about Mariusz, but I’m in good form. I could beat all of these heavyweights with one hand. But I’m in good shape. I’m in fine fettle, injury-free and I’m ready to rock and roll,” he said. “There’s five months to get another fight in before the end of year. And if it is your man Anthony Joshua, good. And if it’s not, then I’ll be fighting somebody else.”

“We Have Our Doubts”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was quick to fire back at Fury, claiming that he has always been unreliable.

“What fight has AJ ever signed for that he’s not competed in? What fight has AJ ever pulled out of? He’s got the most solid resume and the most professional attitude of any fighter I’ve ever worked with. Can we say the same about Tyson Fury? No. That’s the reality of the situation. “If odds are being thrown around about who might pull out of this fight, trust me, it isn’t Anthony Joshua,” he said. “So don’t worry about AJ, he’s as game as they come. But we have our doubts about whether Fury will turn up, especially if AJ looks great on Saturday night.”
