Lamont Roach Jr vs William Zepeda Fight Results: Zepeda Earns A Dominant UD Over Roach

William Zepeda brought his relentless all-pressure offense to Saturday night’s bout on TNT Sports and DAZN, resulting in a dominant unanimous decision over Lamont Roach Jr (25-2-3, 10 KOs) and making him the new WBC lightweight champion.

The judges saw this one 117-111 x2 and 118-110 for Zepeda (34-1, 27 KOs), who called for future unification fights, as he hopes to one day become an undisputed champion.

The opening round did not disappoint as both fighters got off to a quick start. Roach had his left jab working, followed by the overhand right. Zepeda had a good right jab going, with a left hook that followed. The footwork battle was intense throughout the round.

Zepeda wasted no time turning up the pressure in the second round as the four-to-five punch combinations were being thrown at a rapid rate. Roach did a great job of avoiding a big shot. Roach managed to catch and counter a few times, giving Zepeda something to think about.

In the third round, Zepeda began ripping shots to Roach’s body, which opened up Zepeda’s left hooks upstairs. Roach tried to defend Zepeda’s offense, but it was too much for him to handle. Zepeda had a big round with eight punch combinations. Rounds four and five saw Zepeda apply a ton of pressure on Roach, who could not find a way to defend against Zepeda’s offense.

In the sixth round, Roach found his distance and left jab, keeping things at mid-range. Zepeda found himself chasing Roach throughout the round instead of cutting off the ring. Roach landed some hard check right hooks that forced Zepeda to stumble a bit. Zepeda continued his relentless pressure in the seventh round, but when he landed his combinations, Roach began to have a slight delay in reaction. Zepeda’s punches began to have more effect than in the earlier rounds.

After the eighth round, with the WBC using open scoring, the score was 74-74 x2 and 78-74 for Zepeda. That gave Zepeda an even bigger boost in the ninth round as he began to sit down on his punches more, with Roach wearing down more and more.

In the championship rounds, Zepeda poured it on while Roach just couldn’t keep up enough to land effective counterpunches.

LAMONT ROACH JR. VS WILLIAM ZEPEDA UNDERCARD RESULTS

Raymond Muratalla (25-0, 17 KOs) pitched a near-shutout in the co-main event against Robson Conceicao (21-4-1, 10 KOs). The judges scored it 118-110 and 119-109 x2 for Muratalla, who said he had trouble making weight and that he is headed to 140.

Raul Curiel (18-0-1, 14 KOs) was in a tough spot early on, but he was able to secure a majority decision over Quintin Randall (17-4-1, 4 KOs). The judges saw this one 95-95, 97-93, and 100-90 for Curiel, who can now throw his name into the hat for a bigger fight at 147 in the near future.

Charles Conwell (22-1, 17 KOs) made a triumphant return, scoring a ninth-round knockout over Paul Kroll (12-1-2, 8 KOs). Conwell maintained pressure, a body attack and a left hook throughout the fight until the referee stopped it. Conwell has placed himself back into the big fights in the junior middleweight division.
